Guild members voted unanimously to accept the new collective bargaining agreement reached between The Pueblo Chieftain and the Denver Newspaper Guild. Most of the new terms will become effective the week beginning Dec. 30. The new contract is effective through March 31, 2015.
Under the agreement, hourly wage rates will remain unchanged and a majority of the unpaid furlough days will be replaced with a shorter 38.5 hour workweek. The cash-out of unused vacation will be completed by the end of the year. The new contract does include a few reductions in additional pay, such as the reduction in mileage reimbursement by 22 cents per mile and limiting night differential to night hours worked, not the entire shift.
The Chieftain’s recovery from the recession has been slow. The Guild views this contract as a temporary bridge to more prosperous times and we look forward to bargaining a contract reflective of that prosperity in 2015.
