The Denver Newspaper Guild on Aug. 10 negotiated reduced parking rates for photographers and breaking news reporters.
On Aug. 1, monthly rates for photographers to park in The Denver Post building went from no charge to $140; breaking news reporters saw the same increase.
The Guild met with Missy Miller and Linda Shapley, representing Denver Post management, and negotiated the rate down to $70.
The reduced rates for photographers and breaking news reporters are tied to job expectations, including daily multiple assignments that lead to multiple trips to and from the building, necessitating a need to park as close as possible to maximize response times. Security for photographers equipment, some of which is owned by the company, was also considered in discounting the rate.
Prior proposals to discount other staff parking rates were declined by the company.
